Slinfold Horticultural Society
now known as Slinfold Horticultural Society Garden Club.
Slinfold Horticultural Society was formed soon after the war as a charity to encourage, help and educate people in the ways of gardening. Previously it had been a "Horticultural Debating Society" Does anyone know what they used to debate?
The early flower shows used to have separate classes for amateurs and professionals, there being quite a few of the latter in the village. Nowadays we hold 3 seasonal shows, when anyone is invited to take part & display their gardening, handicrafts and cookery. Note that we have a special section for children's entries which is free to enter (and awards cash prizes). The schedules for the Shows can be found be clicking the links on the left.
In the months of October, and February, on the 2nd Thursday, we have speakers talk on various subjects of gardening interest. In December we have the AGM, with a social evening and the Winter Trophy Competition. In March we take part in the Intersociety Quiz, together with the Horticultural societies from Horsham, Southwater and Mannings Heath (our turn to host this in 2015). Meetings are at 7.30pm in the Village Hall upstairs, (let us know if this would be a problem). We have a Garden Meeting in June or July and at least one garden day-trip during the year. We also have a 5-day trip most years. We are always glad to hear suggestions for trip destinations
Members get reduced rate of entry fees to shows and we have social events and outings and are investigating the possibility of bulk buying on compost etc. Let us know of any trip or outing you think might be enjoyable.

Slinfold Horticultural Society Garden Club - Report on Extraordinary General Meeting
At an Extraordinary General Meeting of the club, held on Thursday 11th July, the committee informed the members that, since evening meetings over the past year had been very poorly attended, and very few people had renewed membership this year, it would not be possible for the club to continue in its present form.
After a lot of discussion, several committee meetings and an AGM in December, the committee decided and the members agreed on the above programme to run for a year
We also decided to ask the village for their ideas on the future of the club.
Can anyone help for an hour before or after shows?
Does anyone wish to become a member of the club? or of the committee?
Please let us know your feelings by phoning Janet on 790464 or enquiries
Without some more support, the Society will have to close
Membership of the Horticultural Society is only £8 per year, individual or £15, family membership (Half price if you join halfway through the year), contact any of the committee or come along to a meeting or Show as a visitor.
