Approx size 12" Worked in one piece to armhole
Use 4ply wool and No 10 or 3.25 needles. (Tension should be approx. 12 stitches and 16rows to 4cm over stocking stitch; adjust needle size if necessary)
St: stitch(es), garter stitch, every row knit
St. st: stocking stitch, one row knit followed by 1 row purl
K: knit
P: purl
Sl1: slip 1 st onto right-hand needle
p.s.s.o.: pass slipped st over K st.
yfwd: yarn forward between needles before working next st.
K2tog: knit 2 st. together

BODY worked all in one to armhole
Cast on 104 sts, work 3 rows in
Keeping 3 sts at each end in, work 30 rows in st. st
(Optionally, you may make this fancier by, for example, working a small pattern on the first 6-8 rows all round, or on both fronts using 6-8 rows inside the garter stitch border or work whole garment in stripes of colour)
Next row-make buttonhole, K1 yfwd K2 tog, pattern to last 3 st. K3
Work one more row
Divide for armhole Pattern 28sts, Cast off 4 sts (leaving 26 on needle.) K46, including the st on needle. Cast off 4, Pattern to end. (Should leave 26-44-26st.)
Continue on the last 26sts (keeping 3 sts at the end in g. st) 1st row, P
Next row K1 sl1 K1 p.s.s.o. Pattern to the end.
Repeat these 2 rows to 17 sts, finishing at the armhole edge. Next row, pattern to last 6 st. leave these 6 on a safety pin, turn, pattern to end, decreasing as before, (10st)
Dec. 1 st at the neck edge on next 4 rows, still dec. at armhole edge as before (keep your pattern if practical to do so)(4st). Continue dec. at the armhole edge as before to 2 sts. P 2 tog. Cast off
Rejoin wool to 44sts and P to end.
Next row K1, sl 1 K1 psso, K to the last 3 st, k2 tog, K1. Repeat the last 2 rows to 18sts. P 1 row. Leave these 18st on spare needle or length of wool.
Rejoin wool to last 26 sts, P to the last 3 sts, K 3. Pattern next row to the last 3 sts, K2tog K1, Repeat last 2 rows to 22sts, finishing at front edge.
Next row make buttonhole, K1 yfwd K2tog, patt to the last 3 sts K2tog k1.
Complete to match left front reversing all the shapings.
SLEEVES Make 2 the same
Cast on 26 sts, 5 rows.
Continue in st. st. increasing 1 stitch at each end of the first and every following 6th row until 36 sts
St. st. 8 more rows ending on a P row. 32 rows of st. st. have now been worked.
Shape top, Cast off 2 sts at start of next 2 rows.
Next row k1 sl1 K1 psso, k to the last 3 sts k2tog k1.
Next row P to end
Repeat these 2 rows until 6 sts remain, after P. row leave these 6st on safety pin
TO MAKE UP & NECKBAND **Join raglan & sleeve seams, wool-weaving to give as smooth a seam as possible.
With right side facing K across 6 st at neck edge of right front, pick up and knit 6 stitches evenly up neck edge, K across 6st on sleeve, 18st on back, 6 st on sleeve, pick up and knit 6 stitches evenly down neck edge & K across 6 st at neck edge of left front (54st).
Garter stitch 5 rows, making buttonhole, as before on 2nd row. Cast off
**Optionally, you may find it easier to pick up and knit the neckband first, before sewing up the raglan and sleeve seams
